MOSS REMOVAL & CHEMICAL TREATMENT
At Transparency Roof Cleaning in Burgess Hill, we expertly remove moss using two proven methods: either scrubbing tiles with handmade wire brushes or gently washing it off with a telescopic surface cleaner.
Both techniques are followed by a biocide treatment to ensure that all moss, lichen, and algae are completely eliminated.
Serving Burgess Hill and the greater Mid Sussex area, we provide thorough, reliable roof cleaning services to keep your roof in top condition.
GUTTER CLEARANCE
Gutters are an integral part of any property, which is why we'll clear all of them out to ensure their proper functionality. The runs and downpipes will be checked for any defects and we'll scrub and clean the outsides afterwards to match your soffit and fascias.
SOFFITS & FASCIAS
Keeping your soffits and facias clean is not only to improve the aesthetics of your home, but also important for maintenance & up keep. Our experience and professional equipment ensures a safe & thorough clean. All windows and whitework on the property will also be scrubbed thoroughly.
CONSERVATORY CLEANING
Large amounts of moss will inevitably fall on top of your conservatory roof, which is why we'll clear and clean it for you by removing the debris from both it and the gutters, leaving it cleaner than we found it. The windows and frames on the side are also thoroughly scrubbed.
WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO KEEP ROOF MOSS AT BAY?
Keeping roof moss in check is essential for the preservation of your roof's tiles and integrity. If left unchecked, the moss will start to overwhelm and weaken the roof, leading to potential water-ingress and eventually a costly roof replacement bill.
Removing moss from the roof is absolutely necessary to guarantee the proper functioning of the water drainage and to prevent the tiles themselves from freezing to pieces as the moss digs its roots in.
Large quantities of moss will eventually find their way into the gutters, causing blockages, bowing of the plastic gutter runs and undermining their functionality.
Moss that does not fall into the gutter will fall onto the floor and quickly establish a footing there, becoming extremely slippery and hazardous when wet. If left unchecked it can spread quickly, covering patios and paths and eventually starting to undermine the patios pointing amongst other things.
Clearing the roof of moss and treating it with chemical biocide to prevent the regrowth of roots will add years of life to your roof, preventing you from having to fork out for hefty roof replacement bills if the roof is not maintained properly.
THE MOSS REMOVAL PROCESS
The first step is to remove all the moss from your roof by carefully climbing onto the roof ourselves and hooking onto the ridge with roof ladders, or by using our own scaffolding tower for safe access, which reduces the cost of hiring a scaffolding company. The moss is then either scrubbed off using handmade roof tile brushes connected to our telescopic carbon fibre poles (pictured above), or washed off using our state-of-the-art telescopic surface cleaner (pictured left). The age of the roof is the biggest factor in determining which method is best; as older roofs might not have the structural integrity to withstand soft-washing, whereas soft-washing the roof will yield instant results as it also takes off the lichen and algae as well as the moss.
Even with all our tools and elbow-grease we won't be able to remove every last root with physical labour alone as some dig deep under the tiles, so anything that is still on the roof will be sprayed with a harmless Biocide and left to dissolve over 4/6 months with this treatment. This process can take a few months to totally eradicate the moss, but once it is done it should last up to 3-5 years. The longevity of the treatment is dependent on the environment the property is situated in i.e. trees and shade. We recommend a re-spray every 12 months after the 3-5 years to remove the chance of spores returning, which will also keep the tiles light and clean all year round.
Once we have cleaned and treated your roof, we will always clear and clean any gutters as a lot of moss and residue will end up falling down into them. As part of the service we will also professionally clean your windows and all your soffits & fascias to finish off the job. We produce our own deionised water that we use to ensure no impurities are left on the glass/uPVC, giving it a professional shine.
All the moss that has come off the roof will be cleared up for you and disposed of by us, although we do appreciate being able to use a green-waste bin. Should any fall over into your neighbours property, we will clear that up too and leave the surrounding area tidier than we found it. It may be a good idea to make your neighbours aware of our arrival if you think they may be affected by the falling moss.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if my roof is in need of a Moss Removal?
A: In truth, properties can withstand the blight of moss for decades, so it is all down to how aggressive the growing moss is spreading. A heavily soiled roof will however eventually cause problems with the structure of the roof itself with all the added weight from damp moss, will also block and strain gutters faster, and will fall and spread on to patios and other surfaces below.
Q: Do you charge for quotes?
A: No, but we do insist on visiting the property in order to properly gauge certain factors like access to the roof, in order to provide a bespoke, accurate quote.
Q: Will my neighbours be affected by the moss removal?
A: Potentially, yes. Other properties that are attached to yours, or at least very close may be affected by moss falling on to their side. We will always knock on the doors of neighbours we feel might be affected and ask them kindly if we can have access to their premises in order to clear up any fallen debris and leave the areas tidier than we found it. We always advise our customers to inform their neighbours of our arrival, to better manage everyone's expectations
Q: How long will it take for the moss to grow back after the treatment?
A: After the biocide treatment is applied to the roof, moss will not grow back for at least another 3-5 years. This varies and is entirely dependent on the local environment; with overhanging trees, shade and weather being the main factors enabling the regrowth of moss.

Jonny and his team did an amazing job clearing the moss from our roof. He also cleaned out our gutters and even mended part of a gutter that was broken. He even went out and bought some roof tiles to replace the ones that had broken. Absolutely fantastic service and wouldn't hesitate to use again.
